This is not a forty-minute show at the end of the meal. Here the fado sings while you dine, every night, and the night has no closing time.
There are two shows a night. You choose one, and you choose what time to arrive. After that, the clock stops counting.
Arrive between 19:00 and 19:45. The fado starts around 19:45 and sings through dinner, from the first course to the last.
For late diners. Arrive at 21:45 or 22:00, and from then on the night has no closing time: you stay while there is fado and appetite for it.
Book a table The show is €15 per person, on top of dinner.
A fadista sings from the beginning of the night to the end, and the musicians stay for the whole of it: Portuguese guitar and viola, always live. There is no set that starts and stops: there is fado for as long as the tables are laid.
The other fado houses in Porto advertise the opposite on their own websites: fifteen-minute sets in one, three sets between courses in another.
Come on whichever night you like, there is fado. No rest day, no low season, no night when the house opens without music.
We are the only fado house in Porto that does not close on Sunday. The others publish the closure in their own opening hours.
There is no poster and no announced name. Each night has its own voice, and you only know whose when it starts. That is how a real fado house works: you come for the fado, not for a name.
It is also why the same house can be visited twice and never be the same night.
And you only know whose when it starts.
Dinner and the fado happen at the same time, and that is what makes the night long. Food is served before and between the parts of the show, so that nobody has to choose between eating and listening.
During the fado the room is asked to keep quiet. It is the one rule of the house, and it is the rule that makes being here worth it. Photographs and video without flash are welcome.
